A short, consistent routine can make after-school homework feel easier to begin.

Make a simple start space
Prepare a clear place to work, a drink of water and the homework materials. Give the learner a moment to explain what they think the task is asking before helping.
Choose one task at a time
Avoid placing every subject on the table at once. Decide what can reasonably be completed now and what can be returned to later.
Ask thinking questions
Use questions such as “What do you notice?” or “What could we try first?” This leaves space for the learner to explain their own approach.
End with a positive record
Write down what was finished and what to bring back tomorrow. A visible record of progress helps homework feel like a series of manageable steps.
